Tosi's did not start as a restaurant, but as a small resort catering to Italian-American Families. It is this commitment to you, La Famiglia (the family), that exists to this day......

My Tosi's Connection

by Mr. G. Lewis of Greenville, SC

I was privileged as a youngster to have a summer home at Palisades Park, MI.  Lovely place, can't get enough of it.  While living there and having two brothers who were also born in July we celebrated our birthdays as a group and ALWAYS selected Tosi's as our birthday dinner celebration location.  Sadly we sold our cottage at the Lake but I never lost my love for the place.

When I turned 16 the normal birthday dinner was offered up and my response was let's go to Tosi's.  This may not sound too unusual but at the time we lived in Parkersburg, West Virginia!  My folks just bought a new Lincoln (important for the rest of the story) and Mom was itching for a road trip with it, Dad got off work, and with my brother, Rick, in tow, off we went to Palisades.

Too long of a drive for one evening; we stopped in Flint, MI to overnight at a Ramada Inn.  We were informed we'd have to breakfast at the Frishes' Big Boy  across the street as the Ramada restaurant burned down the previous week.  Not deterred, we stayed.  My Dad, the early riser, went to check us out and entered a crime scene in the lobby complete with police, thugged employees, and an undetermined amount of cash missing.  Dad said he'd check back later to check out!

He and Mom quietly packed our one suitcase and got us up.  Dad told us of the scene in the lobby.  Rick and I wanted to see so we went to the lobby and Dad proceeded with the bag to the car.  No car!  Knowing it was late and a bit shaken by the crime scene he asked Mom about the car location.  She came out of the room.  Her new Lincoln was indeed gone.  Good news was, the police were already onsite!  So a second trip to lobby collected Rick and me AND the police.

With new car gone and bag in hand, we sat.  Dad and Mom filling out paperwork for police and insurance.  Not be dissuaded we were off again on our vacation in our rental car and dinner was at Tosi's at 6 that night.

Fast forward now 38 years and I took my family plus one to your restaurant for dinner last Wednesday evening.  We enjoyed our meal, your restaurant, and the friendliness of your staff… all's fine in the world!

We thank you for fine evenings, both past and present.

From  a student attending Scullen Middle School, Naperville, IL.......

"I'm a sixth grade student at Scullen Middle School in Naperville Illinois. You're probably wondering why I'm writing a letter to you. I am writing this letter because my English teacher gave the class an assignment to write a story and letter to our favorite restaurant. I chose Tosi's as my favorite.

I chose Tosi's as my favorite restaurant for many reasons. One reason is I love all your Italian food and your desserts are delicious. I also chose Tosi's because my grandpa knew Mr. Tosi and he would take my family and I to Tosi's. Every time my family and I come to Michigan, I always ask to go to Tosi's.

I hope you like the story I wrote about your restaurant. Hopefully, it won't be too long until I visit Tosi's again. I wish we had a Tosi's in Illinois. Thank you for having a fantastic restaurant and taking the time to read my letter."

My Favorite Restaurant

Tosi’s is an awesome restaurant in Stevensville Michigan, It is an excellent place for any one. They have great Italian paintings that are really interesting. The dessert is amazing and Tosi’s also has valet parking, which not a lot of other restaurant include. People love everything about Tosi’s, especially the service. This one of a kind restaurant has everything wanted in a restaurant all in one place It has amazing food, a relaxing atmosphere, and incredible service.

To begin with, Tosi’s has amazing food and all kinds of choices. Tosi’s may be an Italian restaurant but they have great steaks too. Also they are known for delicious pastas and pizzas. The desserts are fantastic. They have so many choices such as key lime pie and many delicious chocolate desserts. The food is not the only thing that keeps people coming again and again for years and years. The atmosphere is fantastic too.

Secondly, the atmosphere is nice and relaxing. It is not like those other places with yelling, screaming and dirty tables. Tosi’s is in Michigan, home of the great lakes and only a block away from Lake Michigan. Inside they have Italian paintings and a soothing piano bar. Sometimes a customer might want a nice shady place outside and luckily Tosi’s has that amazing place and in the summer you can eat outside too. The atmosphere isn’t the only thing to go crazy about because the service might be even better.

Lastly, the service is amazing. Both kids and adults love how nice and friendly the servers are to everyone. Even better, Tosi’s has valet parking. This way people will never have to worry about where they’re going to park again. A hostess will lead a person or people to their table. They also make sure those people have enough seats. Better then that, a server will bring the people or persons bread for a beginning appetizer. They also will take their order and serve them their food and drinks. All the reason mentioned make Tosi’s one of the best restaurant for service.

In conclusion, Tosi’s is a great place for everyone small and tall. Tosi’s has fantastic food, a relaxing atmosphere and the most amazing service.  Scrumptious food is what Tosi’s does best. The atmosphere is almost better then the food and some people love the service better then anything at Tosi’s because of all the nice employees. Next time you need a great meal, whether you are by yourself or with friends, stop by Tosi’s and eat some really delicious food.

From Pastor Stanton......

I was a bus boy at Tosi's in the late 1960's.   Many fond memories of co-workers, late nights clearing tables, setting up parties, hauling bus pans full of dishes back to the dishwashing room, filling  water glasses, and wearing that red jacket and clip on bow tie.
As I recall, we (busboys) were a rather unruly bunch, but Eva (was that her name? My memory is fading after 40 years) kept us in check under her firm, but gentle wing.  I remember Mr. Tosi, who was always around checking on virtually everything in the restaurant from customers to cooks, and "grandma Tosi", who loved to encourage the "bus-a boys" to fold the linen napkins a little faster (but always with a smile and a willingness to chat).

Following graduation from high school and an eleven year period of employment as a foreman at LECO Corp. in St. Joseph, I entered training for the ministry as a Lutheran pastor (four years of college and four years of seminary, graduating with a B.A. and M Div. in 1985 and 1989 respectively). Interestingly enough, I served my internship (the 3rd year of seminary) at a Lutheran church in Las Vegas, NV., "learning the ropes" under an experienced pastor.

Besides all those wonderful memories (I can still hear the piano in the bar as the restaurant cleared while we were cleaning up before going home), whenever Linda and I go out -- from a small diner, a McDonald's...or a "fancy" restaurant like Tosi's, I am always particularly careful when interacting with the folks who run and serve that establishment, recognizing the hard work and patience it takes when working with the public.

Like "mama always said", to quote Forrest Gump, "someday you'll remember these days (as a youth) as the best days of your life."  She was right.  Thank you, dear friends at Tosi's, for the memories.  I think of you often...especially late at night, comforting one of my brothers or sisters in a hospital corridor, weary from a long day and a longer evening, and as we pray, I can hear the piano playing.   Blessings!   -- Pastor Stanton

From Dean....

I worked at Tosi's during the summer of 1987.

I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, B.A., in  1990.  I graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1995.  I focus my practice representing businesses in litigation.  I am a member of the firm's Construction and Real Estate practice group.

My wife Julie and I were married on Flag Day (June 14th) in 2003.  Our son, Nolan was born on June 5th of this year.  We live in Zionsville, Indiana.

My parents now live near Knoxville, TN.

I'm still hooked on Tosi's Minestrone Soup and Malfatti, as well as Bit 'o Swiss pull apart coffee cakes, and try to stop by Tosi's any time I can.

From Dane.....

I was fortunate to have had the opportunity and fortune to work for 3 seasons at Tosi's my final two years of high school (Lakeshore Class of 79) and the summer after my first year of college - what an experience and what a stepping stone for me into the hospitality business.

I worked as a busier and bar back in those days (hours and hours in the wine cellar!!) and had the good fortune of meeting many VIP's like Mayor Daly and Coach Ara Parseghian....Of course I didn't realize, at the time how special it was and what an impact it would have years later.

I will be returning to the area in the next several months and I will make it a point to stop by to get my Tosi's fix....

Thanks for the memories and the opportunities!!

- Dane
